Fabrics Of India
Rajasthan
The colorful state of India, Rajasthan, formed in the year 1949 has not been blessed with a pleasant natural environment but has made its tradition stand out from the rest. The state is known for its vibrant yet gorgeous red and yellow turbans or odanies. The love for color shows how Rajasthanis enjoy life with joy and face hardships with great optimism.
The textiles fabricated in the state today are a pleasant blend of experiments on fabric throughout the generations and excellence in handicraft skills. Textiles of Rajasthan are woven with immense precision. It is said that this precision in their work is an oral tradition that has been passed to generations after generations with a great sense of honor and remarkable fineness.

Some of the unique textile innovations of Rajasthan are:
- Bandhani: A fabric designed or patterned by tie and dye technique.
- Leheriya: As the name suggests, a pattern inspired by waves. Such designed fabrics are used in making turbans or sarees.
- Bagru: Designs mainly focussing on flora and exclusively done with vegetable colors.
- Sanganeri: A type of block printing that is famous for its sheer variety of folk patterns done on white fabric.
And the list includes Barmeri prints, Kota Doria, and simple Block printing.
Today, Rajasthan has 69 spinning mills and produces 21.6% of the total textile production of the country.
