Over the years, Gujarat has topped the leaderboard when it comes to the production of raw cotton, cotton fabric, and even man-made fiber fabric. After the announcement of September 2012’s Textile Policy, the state was able to gravitate huge investments of about 9208 crores in various segments of textile till March 2016.
The state is the largest raw cotton producer and produces 33% of overall cotton production in the country. 25% of the country’s total textile manufacturing output is ruled by Gujarat. It is also responsible for 60% of the total cotton fiber export from India. With a production of 390 million meters of cotton fabric per annum, Gujarat is the second-largest producer of cotton fabrics in the nation. 38% of India’s total man-made fiber fabric is produced by Gujarat and so makes it the largest producer of synthetic fabric.

The heart of the state, Ahmedabad is popularly referred to as the Denim Capital of the Country. 65% of the denim fabric in India is produced by Gujarat.
More than half of the country’s processing machinery manufacturers and around 90% of weaving machinery manufacturers reside in this state. Gujarat produces 30% of India’s total woven fabric.
Manchester of the East is the well-defined name for Gujarat which holds its rich cultural heritage of creating, preserving, and showcasing crafts. Some of the well-known traditional textile crafts of the state include Bandhani, sarees like Garchola, Patola, & Tanchoi, its zari work, crochet lacework, Gudri making, Mashru fabric, and more.
